Welcome to the virtual tour of Desmond Castle
Once you are in Kinsale, the Castle is easy to find and is about 5 minutes walk from the town centre.
Most people arrive on foot up the hill as shown in this picture, but be sure to look at the front of the castle and note the interesting stone carvings, including what looks like a bunch of grapes on the south door. |

On arrival
When you arrive at the Castle, you will be met by staff from the Irish Heritage Service.
Opening hours
The Museum is open from Easter to the end of October, seven days a week. The opening hours are 10 am to 6 pm, and the last admission is at 5.15 pm.
Prices 2006
Entrance fees for the museum are:
Adults €2.90
Seniors and groups of 20 or more €2.10
Children and students €1.30
Families (to consist of two adults and a reasonable number of children) €7.40

Heritage cards
Heritage cards give access to all Office of Public Works sites around Ireland.
They can also be bought in the castle.

You can ONLY pay by cash at Desmond Castle - unfortunately credit card facilities are not available.
Meet Maurice Bacach Fitzgerald...
Now you're ready to start finding out about the castle. This is Maurice, 9th Earl of Desmond, who built the castle as an urban tower house in about 1500.
You can now choose Castle history or Wine Museum or
Wine and smuggling to continue your tour.
